Chicago

I haven't really written about travel before, I don't know why, I just haven't. I guess it's partly because when I travel it's mostly for work and I am in and out in less than 24 hours. But I decided that most people don't get to travel for work, only about 12% of all air travel is business travelers and only about 1% of the workforce travel every week by plane for work. I feel blessed!

So here I sit in downtown Chicago on a chilly morning having my left over Chicken Piccata from last night. I am thinking... Boy I am lucky and I want to share it! I think an even bigger reason to write and share is for my own personal journey. What better way to remember where you have been and all the experiences than to record it? Right?

So... Traffic was heavy coming in from the airport. I was surprised by that. I flew in on Sunday for that reason. To avoid heavy traffic. Overall, it was about 40 minutes from Chicago Midway airport to downtown.  I chose a Residence Inn in the heart of downtown because it was close to where my friends suggested. I always stay at Marriott properties. I love Marriott and Delta but you already know that!

I had dinner with friends at The Italian Village and it sure was all that they promised. It was only several blocks from my hotel which was fabulous and 50 degrees outside perfect strolling weather!
This place was so darn cute inside. I was in heaven with the lights and the chatter and the expert service! It was reasonably priced and just great all around!  How cute is this??

It's time to start my day .... But just like I had planned to do...
I enjoyed a few bites of leftovers before my day begins!

Oh and I saw some great Christmas lights but I will be back here in 4 weeks and I will be sharing pics of some really fun things that I will have time to do!   Have an awesome day!

DC Trumps most other cities

I love DC and I love Washington. They are different you know? If you work in government, then you consider yourself to work in Washington.  If you do anything else here or you are a tourist, it's called DC! I came to DC for the first time at 18 years old on my senior trip and I have loved it ever since. I'm always excited when flying into Ronald Reagan airport which is in the heart of the city. I love that about the RR airport! I am sitting in the sky club now and I am looking a the Capitol in the distance. It's just beautiful. I love all of the landmarks here.  I think the Washington Monument is my favorite. This time I stayed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. It's Five Star. Turn down service with slippers placed by your bed at night. It's truly a great experience.  The bar, the food, the rooms are all perfection. Next Stop was the Trump Hotel! Now that was a treat for sure. We just stopped by for coffee and of course to question the staff :) It's truly...
I guess the one thing I get asked more than anything is. "How were you able to leave a nursing career making 70 k a year and consistently make over 150 k a year and enjoy traveling and fine dining on someone else's money?" I am going to tell you exactly how I did it! I knew what I wanted and took little steps everyday!  1. Mindset!   The first step is conquering your MIND!  Deciding what you want and being open to the way it unfolds but knowing that it will unfold!  I knew when I was walking the halls of the hospital that there was more for me.  Being a bedside nurse is wonderful and fulfilling and I have made life long friends because of my time working in hospitals.  However, I knew that it wasn't something that I would do forever.  I always wanted to fly and travel and work as an executive! ALWAYS! From the time I was in high school, I wanted more out of life than an eight to faint job! Personal development is the key to getting what you w...
Well It's 2 days after my 50th and I guess it's sinking in... I AM 50!!!!  I decided today that the word for my 50th year would be gratitude.  I do my best thinking when I write so I decided to get up this morning and write. I should write more because when I read it back I am in awe of what I said and how I said it. It moves me. Yes, my own words move me. When I read back what I write... I am pretty darn shocked as what came out of me. I think everyone should try it. My life's word is BELIEVE. I love that word, I think it's a key to everything in life. My belief in myself and my gifts have gotten me this far... How far is that you ask? Well, from a poor small town girl in rural South Ga to a business professional who has had opportunities that most only ever dream of. So back to Gratitude. I think Gratitude and living as, Tony Robbins calls it, in a state of beauty based on Gratitude and appreciation will take me the distance for the next 40 years. What is the dist...
